Grand Marshal of the 79th East Los Angeles Mexican Independence Day Parade & Festival
From Migrant Farmworker to Space Shuttle Astronaut: Hernández is a Mexican-American engineer and astronaut. His journey is a source of inspiration, as he currently serves as a Regent of the University of California, a role that reflects his commitment to education and his community. He was on the Space Shuttle mission STS-128 in August 2009 and also served as chief of the Materials and Processes branch of Johnson Space Center.

The History

The East LA Mexican Independence Day Parade & Festival is a vibrant annual celebration of Mexican culture and history. Since its inception in 1946, organized by the Comite Mexicano Civico Patriotico, it has grown into a cherished tradition in the East Los Angeles community. As the largest Mexican Independence Day celebration in the United States, we aim to honor our rich heritage while uniting friends and families in joyous festivities. Join us as we celebrate our culture and the bonds that bring us together!
